In the next few years, the Kingdom’s rail network will extend to more than 8,000 kilometers, thanks to the vision and backing of our knowledgeable leadership. Speaking at Wednesday’s inaugural event of the Saudi Rail Conference and Exhibition in Riyadh, the Minister stated that this expansion will further establish Saudi Arabia as a worldwide logistics hub.
Leaders in the railway sector from around the world gathered for the two-day event in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Eng. Al-Jasser, in his inaugural speech, highlighted the ambitious rail infrastructure objectives of Saudi Arabia. Pointing out that the present network extends over 5,500 kilometers, the minister praised the Kingdom’s advancement in rail expansion.
The Minister focused on two major rail networks, the North Rail Network, which links Riyadh to the Jordanian border, and the East Rail Network, which connects Riyadh to the coast of the Arabian Gulf. After opening to the public in the year 2018, the Haramain High-Speed Railway (HHR) has quickly surpassed all expectations, becoming one of the world’s fastest trains. According to the Minister Eng. Al-Jasser, these changes are in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy. His words were filled with admiration for the unmatched backing bestowed upon the transportation and logistics industry by the leadership of the Kingdom.
At the event conference, the minister unveiled the Asasat Program, which seeks to localize Saudi Arabia’s railway (SAR) industry. The Asasat program aims to create more than 3,000 jobs in the Saudi local market, raise the percentage of local content in Saudi Railways activities to 60 percent by the year 2025, and attract investment opportunities of 15 billion Saudi Riyals by the year 2030.
On the first day, many entities signed cooperation agreements and memoranda, which will promote collaboration and partnerships in the railway industry. In order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of railway operations, the participants investigated the latest technologies and solutions. Innovative products and services from both domestic and foreign exhibitors were on display, illuminating the potential of rail travel in the years to come.
