Virtues of the Dhul Hijjah 10 days
The Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said
“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.”
The people asked, “Not even jihaad for the sake of Allah?” He said, “Not even jihaad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause and came back with nothing.”

What should you recite in these 10 days of Dhul Hijjah :
The Messenger of Allah said, “There are no days greater in the sight of Allah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these 10 days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel, Takbeer and Tahmeed.” See Also : A simple guide of Hajj pilgrimage
Tahleel : La ilaha ill-Allah
Takbeer : Allahu Akbar
Tahmeed : Alhamdulillah
Saying of the Takbeer : “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaaha ill-Allah, Allahu Akbar wa Lillaahil Hamd”
Fasting the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah :
Some of the wives of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said :
That the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would fast the first nine days of the month of Dhul Hijjah, the day of Ashura, and three days of every month, which would be the first Monday and Thursday of the month. – Imam Nawawi said : “It is part of the Sunnah to fast the first 9 days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah.” (Al-Majmu’ Sharh al-Muhadhab 6/386).
– Allah says : “All of the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except for fasting, which is for Me and I am the One Who will reward him for it.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 1904)
What is the Day of Arafah ?
Tariq Bin Shihab narrates, A Jew said to Umar : “O Ameer al-Mumineen, there is an aayah in your Book which you recite, if it had come to us Jews, we would have taken that day as an Eid.”
– Umar said, “Which Aayah?” He said, “This day I have perfected your religion for you completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” (Al-Maa’idah 5:3).
– Umar said, “We know on which day in which place that was revealed to the Prophet(صلى الله عليه وسلم). It was when he was standing in Arafah on a Friday.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 7268) Read : The best day on which Sun arose – The day of Arafah
Fasting on the Day of Arafah :
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, It expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year. (Sahih Muslim 1162).
– The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, “There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafah. He comes close and expresses His pride to the angels, saying What do these people want?” (Sahih Muslim 1348)
What should you do if you wish to offer Sacrifice :
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, “If the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah begin and one of you intends to sacrifice, let him not remove anything from his hair or skin.” (Sahih Muslim 1977)
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, “If anyone of you intends to offer sacrifice he should not get his hair cut or nails trimmed.” (Sahih Muslim 1977d)
