The aggression on Gaza, which has been going on for more than a year, has affected the territorial integrity of Iraq, Syria, and Iran, and now it has spilled over into Lebanon as well, according to the report, which also warned of the danger of the escalation sweeping the region. Meanwhile, there have been no clear international actions to stop this aggression.
Additionally, the heads of Arab and Islamic states have resolved to unite the world community behind Palestine’s request for full membership in the United Nations. A global boycott on the sale or transfer of weaponry to Israel was demanded by them.
The Israeli occupation army’s crimes in the Gaza Strip, including the recent unearthing of mass graves, torture, field executions, enforced disappearances, looting, and ethnic cleansing, have been criticized in the summit’s adopted resolution, which harshly condemned the crimes against humanity.
In order to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are not able to escape punishment, the leaders of Arab and Muslim nations have urged the Security Council to establish an unbiased and trustworthy international committee to conduct an investigation. In addition to demanding an immediate end to the conflict, the resolution harshly denounced Israel’s ongoing assault against Lebanon, as well as the Israeli invasion of Lebanon’s legitimate and sanctity of its territory. Support for the Lebanese Republic in the face of this attack was highlighted, and the entire scope of UN Security Council Resolution No. 1701 (2006) was called for.
The murders of innocent people, the deliberate leveling of entire neighborhoods, the forcible relocation of entire populations, and the intentional targeting of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were all sharply condemned during the summit. It pledged to back the constitutional institutions of Lebanon as they exercise their power and expand Lebanon’s sovereignty over all of its areas. The importance of swiftly electing a president for the country was underscored throughout the summit, which also highlighted support for the Lebanese Armed Forces as a means of ensuring Lebanon’s stability and unity.
Israeli practices of collective punishment, including the siege and starving of Gaza population, were denounced during the Arab-Islamic summit. To stop the humanitarian disaster that has resulted from the invasion, the international world was urged to adopt swift and practical measures, such as pressing Israel to leave the Gaza Strip entirely and open all borders between the two.
In order to put an end to Israel’s actions, the resolution demanded that the United Nations Security Council prohibit the shipment or transfer of arms to Israel and that all nations do the same. Additionally, it denounced the hypocrisy in applying UN Charter provisions, international humanitarian law, and international law and urged the international community to do something to make Israel follow international law.
The resolution highlighted that “this double standard seriously damages the credibility of the countries that protect Israel and place it above accountability, as well as the credibility of international action,” in addition to revealing a bias in the application of humanitarian principles. It was stressed at the summit that the ongoing efforts to gain global support for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations must be maintained. It was noted that Algeria, as one of the two organizations represented in the Security Council, has been consistently working to support the Palestinian cause and maintain unity within the Palestinian ranks, as well as submitting a resolution for full membership.
Achieving Palestinian national unity to effectively assume its responsibilities over all the occupied Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip and its unification with the West Bank, including the city of Jerusalem, was a central demand of the summit, as was the provision of all forms of political and diplomatic support as well as international protection for the Palestinian people and the State of Palestine.
Further importance was placed on the necessity of providing financial aid to the Palestinian State in order to help with its humanitarian relief initiatives, economic recovery, and rebuilding of the Gaza Strip.
Maintaining financial support for the State of Palestine’s budget and implementing a transparent financial safety net in accordance with agreed-upon processes were also highlighted in the resolution. It formally asked the world community to put pressure on the Israeli occupation government to immediately return all of the tax money that the Palestinians have withheld.
